Professional legacy
Mark Raukar grew up around manufactured housing, spending his childhood at Little Valley Homes in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where his father, Matthew, and uncle, Ed, operated a community and retail business. Although the family enterprise shaped his early understanding of the industry, Raukar first pursued an independent professional path. He earned a civil-engineering degree from Valparaiso University and spent nine years with Turner Construction in Columbus, Ohio, working as a field engineer, purchasing agent and construction manager. The experience broadened his expertise in construction management, purchasing and cost accounting.
In 1987, Raukar returned to Michigan and joined Little Valley Homes. He worked in community operations, sold homes to other communities and helped realize his father’s vision of growing the company beyond a single property. As president, he maintained a business philosophy centered on matching families with quality housing suited to their needs, lifestyle and budget.
Raukar’s professional legacy extended well beyond his own company. He served on the board of the Michigan Manufactured Housing Association and on the executive board of the Michigan Manufactured Housing, RV and Campground Association. He also served as a trustee of the HARVEST Education Foundation, which promoted the industry and provided college scholarships.
Governor John Engler appointed Raukar as Michigan’s manufactured-housing commissioner, and Governor Jennifer Granholm later reappointed him. Across 17 years in that role, he helped guide the state’s highest manufactured-housing regulatory authority, addressing licensing, rules, standards and variances. He later continued public service through the Sylvan Lake Planning Commission, advising on zoning requests and ordinances. Raukar also supported industry-promotion initiatives funded through manufactured-home sales. His Hall of Fame induction recognized a lifetime of community leadership, responsible regulation, industry advocacy and service to Michigan families.
