Professional legacy
Garry Bewernick built his career alongside his father, Vern, at Atlas Trailer Coach Products, the Canadian RV parts business his family entered in 1969. He began working at Atlas while still in high school, packaging transmission coolers after school and on weekends. After briefly pursuing college studies in business, economics and law, he joined the company full time and advanced through shipping, receiving, purchasing and dealer sales.
Following his father’s death in 1986, Bewernick assumed leadership of Atlas at age 30. Under his direction, the company expanded its Canadian distribution network and strengthened its position in the RV aftermarket. In 1993, rather than sell Atlas to a consolidator, he acquired First Choice Wholesalers and established a fifth Atlas location in Winnipeg. The company later concentrated its operations in Calgary, London, Montreal and Vancouver and grew to employ more than 65 team members.
Bewernick also helped dealers gain better access to parts and technical information. In 1999, he negotiated Atlas’s distribution of the OTI Canada Magnifier online parts-and-service program, which provided pricing, availability, wiring diagrams, service manuals and replacement information. He devoted substantial time to industry service through the Warehouse Distributors Association and RV Aftermarket Association, serving on the board and helping organize executive conferences and other programs. He also helped guide the association’s transition from WDA to RVAA.
Among his proudest accomplishments was the Atlas Buying Show, which became a major resource for Canadian aftermarket retailers. Bewernick credited Atlas’s longevity to loyal employees, enduring customer relationships and the values of consistency, honesty, generosity and integrity. His induction recognized more than five decades of leadership and his family’s contribution to the growth of the Canadian RV industry.
