RV/MH Heritage Foundation · Elkhart, Indiana · Preserving the legacy of two industries
Answers to common questions about visiting the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museums, exploring historic units, overnight RV stays, and researching the industries we preserve.
Operational details can change. Where a dedicated page exists, each answer provides a clearly labeled path to the current source for hours, admission, scheduling, and request forms.
RV/MH stands for Recreational Vehicle and Manufactured Housing. In the years following World War II, returning service members created an urgent need for housing. Trailer manufacturers produced larger units intended for stationary or semi-permanent use, while other products continued to develop for travel and recreation.
The 1939 Schult Nomad Travel Trailer preserved in the museum helps illustrate this shared history. Over time, the industries developed along two paths: recreational vehicles for travel and the manufactured housing industry.
Museum hours vary by season and are listed in Eastern Time. The current schedule, holiday closures, directions, and visitor details are maintained on the Plan Your Visit page.
Yes. Museum admission may be purchased at the gift shop/front desk. Current admission details and the approved adult online checkout are available on the Tickets & Admission page.
Well-behaved pets are welcome when controlled by a carrier, harness, leash, stroller, or similar restraint. Guests should remain aware that other animals may be present and closely monitor pets that become excitable around other animals.
Please use the grassy areas surrounding the museum for pet relief. If an accident occurs indoors, notify the front desk promptly.
Overnight stays are available for museum visitors, subject to Foundation confirmation, campus schedules, and posted blackout dates. The Overnight RV Stays page contains the current policies, availability calendar, and request form. Submitting a request does not create a reservation.
The museum experience is self-guided. Exhibit information sheets and videos are available throughout the museum. Groups of 14 or more may request coordinated arrangements through the Group Visits page; a request requires staff confirmation.
Many units are open for visitors to enter. Units protected by yellow rope or marked “Do Not Enter” must not be entered because of their age, rarity, or fragility. Follow the red and green access signs provided with each unit.
If a protective rope has fallen or an access marker is unclear, please tell a front desk associate.
The museum does not operate a café. Vending machines are available in the gift shop for visitor convenience.
The Kindlund Library & Archives supports research into companies, people, vehicles, homes, publications, and industry history. Its page includes the collections overview and a research inquiry form. An inquiry does not confirm that requested materials are held, available, digitized, or ready for access.
